Boulder Roubaix Road Race powered by Wholesome Masters Racing Team Announces 2026 Date and NEW Race Course
The Boulder Roubaix Road Race is one of the most popular road races in the West Recognized as one of the “All Time Best Spring Classic Races in North America”
[BOULDER, CO] The Boulder Roubaix Road Race powered by Wholesome Masters Racing Team is one of the “Most Popular Road Races in the West” and the 2026 edition promises big changes for racers and spectators.
Call it a Road Race, a Gravel Race or a Mixed-Surface Race…..It’s always the highlight of the Colorado bicycle racing season and it’s back in 2026.
Over one thousand athletes from 15 states and multiple nations will converge on Sunday, April 26 for the Boulder Roubaix Road Race powered by Wholesome Masters Racing Team, Colorado’s oldest and most popular one-day bike race. The Boulder Roubaix features hilly gravel roads and fast smooth pavement on a circuit just north of the cycling mecca Boulder Colorado.
And if you think you know all about The Boulder Roubaix mixed-surface course you’re in for a surprise. Organizers have added some extra miles and moved the Start/Finish to the Boulder Reservoir. That means ample parking space and an enhanced Expo & Food Area at the lake park known by locals as ‘the Rez.”
Race founder and director Chris Grealish explains, “We looked for ways to enhance the experience for racers and fans and The Boulder Reservoir does that. We’ll have a longer course, a larger parking area and even a bigger expo and food area.”
The first Boulder Roubaix took place in 1992 and has since become one of the most well-attended amateur road races in the United States. The Gran Fondo Guide recently recognized the Boulder Roubaix as one of the “All Time Best Spring Classic Races in North America.” The Boulder Roubaix is a local tribute to the famed European classic Paris Roubaix. It featured a challenging gravel course before the term “gravel racing” was a trend.
The Boulder Roubaix is held every other year and offers race categories ranging from future champions 9 & 10-year-old juniors to Pro & Elite level racers as well as national and international teams.
Race founder and director Chris Grealish talked about the popularity of the race: “Veteran pros and amateurs alike love Boulder Roubaix. Up-and-coming racers know that a victory here can get them noticed by pro teams. And with the crazy interest in gravel racing in the USA I’m hearing from many top-level gravel pros who plan to use Boulder Roubaix as a tune-up for their season.”
The new 2026 course incorporates portions of the former course but adds a new paved section and a tricky gravel section over the dams at Boulder Reservoir leading to the final sprint to the finish. The challenging 30-mile (48.3 Km.) circuit consists of about 60% dirt roads and the remainder paved roads. The pro men will complete 3 laps of almost 90 miles and the pro women will do 2 laps of about 60 miles. Beginners and first timers races start at 8:00 am with other categories throughout the day.
